Default Sysprep: works for Motherboard/CPU/RAM upgrade

Boot NEW build using OLD build boot drive!!! Microsoft Sysprep (already installed as a part of Windows) is a HUGE time saver!!!

I just upgraded my motherboard, CPU, & RAM (see sig below). ALL other hardware - and software - came from my old/working build. I was able to boot the new build using the old drive. Win10 & all installed apps carried over (ProTools, plugs, etc). Before swapping hardware, I ran Sysprep.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...s-installation
That link makes it look more complicated than it really is; just choosing the default options of "OOBE/Generalize/Shutdown" worked for me. Shut down old build. Swap out MB CPU RAM parts. First boot new build. Internet connection is a must during 1st boot, to automatically get & install the new motherboard/CPU drivers. After booting, I then had to re-initialize & re-authenticate (but NOT re-install) Windows, and adjust Windows settings to taste. I did NOT do a clean install, since my old build was stable. Sysprep simply allowed it to point to the new MB CPU RAM hardware. I also needed to do AVID optimizations, update/reset iLok, & a few other minor things. Previously installed apps work on the new build. This saved me a TON of time. Stable so far...

Not yet, but I’m about to swap my x99 Gigabyte/i7 for an Asus X299/i9. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Use it in my day job all of the time. It's essential if you're using "gold" images on new computers or servers..
