Preffered Near Field Monitors around $1000+/-?
I'm looking for a pair that's versatile both for television post and music production. Most of my experience thus far has been with Event 20/20's that I've owned for some time. Looking for an upgrade but don't have a personal preference yet. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

$1000 for a pair or for monitor each?
We use Adam P11s in a suite, but they're $2000 for the pair. I like them. They're fairly flat, they react well in the room and have good resolution for the size. We use a TACT room correction, but it doesn't do very much other than minor tweaks which is a good thing.

These JBLs are what I would buy if I had a Grand for Monitors today http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/LSR4326Ppak/

Thanks so far. My $1000-ish budget is for a pair. I heard good things about the Focal CMS 50's. Anyone use them?

Re: Preffered Near Field Monitors around $1000+/-?
I checked them out at the beginning of this year when I was monitor hunting. I ended up going with Adam A7X's because I liked the tighter and further-extending low end the Adam's had, but the Focal's were a close second and had some properties in the upper-mids & highs that I preferred over the Adams.

Don't know if this is helpful, but we tested the Focals in the $3k-7k range against Meyer HD-1s and Barefoots. Barefoots won hands down. Deeper bass, more focussed sound stage, more critical mids. The $1k range is tough- so many design compromises have to be made. Good luck.

Hey, if you have been mixing on the 20/20bas', keep using them. There is a little bump in the mids, but other than that they are fine. I've been mixing on them for years, and I know them very well. If you have $1000, treat your room, that's better than a new pair of monitors. Sorry to rain on your gear lust.

Re: Preffered Near Field Monitors around $1000+/-?
Ha, certainly lusting however, I just bought $600 worth of panels from GIK a few weeks ago. It was absolutely necessary in my new space & worth it. Might even order some more in the coming weeks. My 20/20's are passive, powered by a hafler P3000 fyi... Saw a pair of Focal CMS50's on eBay last week go for $750, should've snagged them (1 day auction with a buy it now option), dang.
