Has anyone done an i9 13900k build using this board? This seems to fit my needs perfectly.

Hi all and sorry for my poor english ( French here)

I want a barebone PC for my Pro tools system . I didn't upgrade pro tools to the latest version . I'm still on Pro tools 2021.3.0 (June 2021 i think).

i bought a barebone in May 2021 , but i'm disappointed .
The Cpu can't handle even a normal session and the Protools CPU always hit 100 .

My gig is :

i9 -10880 H
2.3 GHZ
Windows 10 32Gb
Micron 2200 MTFDHBA1T0TCK-1AT1AABYY 1TB TLC PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive
Intel UHD Graphics (i don't play games and don't use video software)
Motherboard
Manufacturer SYWZ
Model S210H Series (U3E1)
Version To Be Filled By O.E.M.
Chipset Vendor Intel
Chipset Model ID9B44

I don't know why it's so weak to handle a good session .

I consider buying maybe this , could you tell me if it seems good enough to handle any project?

I have also this , an i7 13700K which costs 200€ less

Thank you ( The link is in French but you can easily read the technical sheet)

The i9-10 you have is a mobile chip, but it should still pack a considerable punch. Have you disabled Turbo Boost (as per Avid's out of date, idiotic advice)? That would gimp it's performance considerably, if it's operating only at the stock 2,3GHz.

As far as your links, why would you be buing those "NUC" boxes? They look awfully cramped and have bad airflow, which will be bad for the 13th gen Intels, as they run hot. You would do well to look at some system in a Fractal Designs Meshify 2 enclosure or somethin of similar quality (Lian Li maybe), with a very good quality cooler (Noctua NH-D15 minimum, or a good 360 or 420 water system).

As Skwaidu asks, why is it the NUC you want to stick with?

If you prefer a pre-built machine and are looking to spend around 1700 euros, have a look at Scan, https://www.scan.co.uk/shop/music-an...lt-systems/all

The system I bought from them a couple of years ago based on a 9900K continues to work flawlessly, I was way out of date with what to expect from a machine as I was basing that on a 7 year old mac book pro. The 9900K handles what I think most would call small to medium sessions (20-30 tracks, 10 instruments and a bunch of plug ins, I know, not exactly scientific) without breaking a sweat.

With regard to what a current well spec'd machine will handle, there's a lot of variation in what people call normal but if in doubt, tell them your track, plug in, instrument counts and see what they say.

Editing to add: I dealt with Pete at Scan. He is awesome. Can't say if he's still there. Haven't needed to use their support, the machine has been rock solid.

My own advice; I would not expect anything from any cpu under 3GHz. As for the ASUS Prime Z790-P, I would check to see if Gigabyte has a similar product as Asus is a little more questionable on compatibility(based on notes from Avid's site). Sure, it MAY be fine, but if Gigabyte has a suitable offering, I would go that route

On modern Intel the base frequency is totally irrelevant though, and that's also why Avid's still current "disable Turbo Boost" is total nonsense.

His i9-10880H has a base speed of 2,3GHz but Turbo goes up to 5,1GHz. That latter is most likely single thread max, so PT on High Performance Power would probably end up somewhere around 4-4,5GHz, still a massive difference to the stock 2,3GHz if Turbo Boost was disabled...

My i9-13900K has a base clock of 3,0GHz (P-cores), but they live at 5,5GHz in PT use (except I have a per core overclock going so they are actually 5,6-5,8GHz depending on core).

As a general rule though, things like GHz or i5 vs i9 matter very, very little. Much more important is the IPC which comes nearly directly from the generation the CPU is from. 13th gen is *insanely* more powerful than something like 7th gen, at the same clock speeds, and the same applies to AMD models.

Hello and thank you all for the answers !

I'm really confuse by all your replies and still don't know what do to .

I will try to respond:

I'm a Dj /Producer and i'm moving a lot (each week) in Europe /Us / Africa.
So i needed a small computer with powerful features to travel with , since i only come back at home 5 days / Month .

I'm still baffled by the lack of performance of my i9 -10880H though i didn't know it was a laptop CPU .

I tried to disable hyperthreading , and it didn't have any effect.
It's a bit better when i go to affinity to disable 8 threads ( from Number 4 to number 11) .

I didn't find a "turbo boost" option in the BIOS . I only have Quiet boost / Intel Speedstep (tm) / Intel VMX technology . All of them are enabled

I looked at the website for pre-built machine . It's really expensive. Is there another one less expensive?

Graphic card is not even included !!

Cost 600€ more (2300€) for an I9 -13900 and it's only normal desktop computer.

My question is :are these "NUC" that i put here in links badly built ? Is the cooling system so bad , it will kill the CPU ?

Thank you

Get a modern laptop. MAC/M2 or Windows/13th gen intel.

After a bunch of research, I am close to having the final parts list for an i9 13900k HDX machine. The only thing I have left to decide is between 2 motherboards.

Case - Fractal Design Pop XL Silent Black
CPU - i9 13900k
CPU Cooler - Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black
Motherboard Option 1 - MSI PRO Z790-P WIFI DDR4 LGA 1700 Intel Z790
Motherboard Option 2 - GIGABYTE Z790 D DDR4 LGA 1700 Intel Z790 ATX

Which motherboard would be best to put 2 HDX cards in? Is there a better option I am not aware of?

I will be recycling my old 32GB of DDR4 RAM, my OS drive, my data drives, and my EVGA 1050TI GPU.

Thanks for any opinions you may have. I will updating from an i7 8700k system, so I am hoping to see huge performance increases.
