Default DMGAudio updates for EQuality, EQuick and Compassion

Hi all,

I've been hacking away on the plugs. Just wanted to give you a heads-up that updates are out (and looking extremely solid). Grab them from dmgaudio.com

Also, EQuality and Compassion are running AAX Native quite happily. Needs a little more testing (and thanks to those of you who've mailed. I'll get on this shortly) and then we'll ship. AAX Native update will be free to all existing owners.

Changelog:

Changes, EQuality v1.15->v1.16, Compassion v1.04->v1.05 and EQuick v1.00->v1.01

EQuick/EQuality/Compassion
- Fixed textbox display, ProTools Mac RTAS.
- Fix crash when switching between DMGAudio plugins in ProTools using header menu.
- Fixed obscure potential crash bug.
- VST3 versions support presets.
- Fixed clip-light handling in ProTools.
- Fixed bug whereby host redraw would slow down when UI was open.
- Improved AudioSuite metering and processing.
- Enable Windows ProTools automation menu.
- Fixed issues relating to window resizing in ProTools.
- Added A/B Automation type preference.
- Always report zero latency when expired/hard bypassed.

EQuality/Compassion

EQuick/EQuality
- Fixed bug where saving filter with 48db/oct (entered numerically) reloads as 42db/oct.
- Fixed bug whereby analyser could hide high-frequency spikes.

EQuality
- Fix Spec-analyser pops.

Compassion
- Clip/Limiter is now post M-S decode.
- Added Limiter pre/post parameter.
- Added Expander Threshold offset parameter.
- Fixed issue whereby Auto-release depended on manual release parameter.
|- Warning: This might change sessions where autorelease is used. If so,
|- set auto-release short time to match manual release time.
- Fixed bug whereby detectors would display incorrectly as Peak in detector graph.
- Reduced memory usage by 14MB/instance. Now 3.2MB/instance.
- Added Peak/Hold indicator for limiter gain reduction.

EQuick
- Exclude filters/notches when computing maximum gain while dragging.
- Ctrl+Alt+Click to delete all selected bands.

I'm noticing a graphics problem with the latest EQuick on Pro Tools 8.1cs2 on OS 10.6.8. Medium size looks normal but Large size is only the left side of the plugin.

Four things that need to be fixed (I'm on Pro Tools 10 HD/Mac OSX Lion 10.7.2):

1. Instantiating Equick/duplicating tracks with Equick takes a long time in Pro Tools. Try duplicating a track with 10 Equick inserts, takes 10 seconds. Now compare it to almost any 3rd pary plug-in/Avid plug-in.

2. Saves take longer, and the Pro Tools session file gets huge (obviously related). A simple session with about 20 tracks increases in size from 249 KB to 4.9 MB. Same as above when comparing to almost any 3rd party/Avid plug-in.

3. Hovering mouse over the EQ nodes in the analyzer is supposed to show the text info for that particular band. It's very buggy and it instantly goes away and pops in and out as you hover the mouse around, making it impossible to input any text values.

4. No Avid Icon D-Control mapping to center section at all. If FabFilter Pro-Q (which is similar concept in my mind) can map to the center section, Equick should as well. At least the first 7 bands.

This would be my number one EQ to use for every day work if it wasn't so buggy. I absolutely love the functionality, the UI and the way it sounds.

Hello Everybody,

I'm trying to get my head around Compassion and I have a very specific need. Hopefully somebody here can help me, as I seem to be hitting a brick wall.

I'd like to utilize Compassion's "upward compression" mode. Using this mode I would like to be able to apply it to a dialog track and basically apply gentle upward compression on dialog that is between about -12dBFS and -36dBFS.

It seems like the controls are there to do it, but I cannot make it do a darn thing. That is, I cannot HEAR it doing anything.

Here's what I'm doing. Please tell me if I have it all wrong.

In the Ratio Parameters, I'm turning ON the upward Compress setting.

Then I'm setting my Expansion to something like 1:6

Then I set the overall Threshold to -12dB, which makes my Knee Graph look appropriate.

Lastly, under the Threshold Parameters advanced settings, I set my Depth to 24 dB, which also makes the Knee Graph appear that it will only apply upward compression in the range I want ie: about -36 to -12.

Everything LOOKS like it should work, but I'll be damned if I can see (or hear) that it's doing ANYTHING.

Can somebody please try this for me and see if they can make it work? I haven't purchased the plugin yet, because this is the specific need I have for it. I'd like to use it to in essence ride low dialog levels for quick Avid outputs and whatnot.

Thanks a million for your assistance with this.

For anybody interested, I finally discovered that Upward Compression in Compassion doesn't work unless the release type setting is something other than zero. I don't fully understand what this setting does, but if I crank it o 100%, then upward compression works exactly as I would expect it to.

Very nice plugin. And it's working fabulously with PT11, which is an even bigger bonus.

Does anyone else have this problem with Equality?

I can never open the plugin window, click on a node and have it work first time. I have to click twice. If I click too fast, it bypasses the node (of course). Once the Equality window is open, and clicked in, it words as it should. It's like you have to 'click into' the window to get it active. Really annoying.

On the good side, it's one of the only plugins that lets you play/stop while holding down the mouse button and changing parameters. Digi Eqs do this without the annoying 'click to make active' move that Equality needs. Oh, and it sounds great.

All the documentation I can find on EQuick says it's "AAX 32+64 bit" but PT11 tells me it's not a valid 64 bit plug-in. Anyone else getting that message?
