Default Data recovery? sorry a little OT

My friend has an Alesis 24 track hard disc recorder...something happened with a power surge and I believe it corrupted the registry and he can't get to any of his songs. It's a Western Digital IDE drive, I don't know much more. Any ideas?

Data recovery services are expemsive. Get one of those IDE-USB adapter kits($20 at newegg.com) and see if maybe you can access the files on a PC(or maybe reinstall the registry info if you can get it from Alesis). I hope you have luck on this but I am not optimistic as I just lost a firewire drive to a power surge. This is why I never plug sensitive gear into the wall any more. I have APC UPS power supplies on both computers and the cable modem/router.

Unfortunately the Alesis multitrack digital recorders do not use standard FAT32 nor NTFS file formats. They use a proprietary format to make contiguois recording regions work better but at the sacrafice of compatibility with computers.

Thanks guys, we will see about getting ahold of a fireport.

Guy

p.s. very OT, Jakub but any idea of how to get ahold of an old friend of mine in the CR? I think his parents live in Machov. I googled his name, nothing...

I too had already faced such a situation last time but luckily I got a recovery tool stellar phoenix partition recovery which is quite effective and fruitful. This software is very simple to use. User interface of the software lets the less technical skilled users to achieve an absolute partition recovery.
