Default PTHD Dithering & Not Dithering...files NULL?

Greetings,

I have a 48_24 Mastering Session set up in PT HD10...bouncing down to 44_16.

I Bounce down without using a Dither Plug to 44_16.
I Bounce down using the POW(Type 2)Plug to 44_16

The two 44_16 interleaved WAV files are nulling.

Should this be happening?

TIA!!!

They most likely are not nulling completely, only to the extent that the difference is tough to hear. When going from 24 bit to 16 bit, Dither SHOULD be used, While it won't change the overall sound, it will affect very low-level stuff, like reverb trails. The way to hear the difference might require you to crank the volume way up, and that can be dangerous for a few reasons(like accidentally trashing your speakers or your hearing) so my best advice is to trust the experts(not referring to me) and use Dither when its called for. You should also consider that not everybody has the perception of hearing detail of the next person. I have a friend that hears 100 shades where I hear 10

PT HD10 requires that the dithered mixer be installed in addition to a 16-bit output plug-in. Without it, every single plug-in will be causing truncation distortion which can mask the low-level detail and reduce the effect of dither.
