Default Digidesign sound control panel slows mac down

I.m running Digi 001 on a dual 800 G4. Whenever I go to the Sound Control planel to switch between my CD player playing through the built in speaker or Digi 001 interface, the computer becomes sluggish and sometimes crashes. This is really causing problems because I'm sure many people want to hear CDs and iTunes etc through their Digi hardware. How can I fix this?? I's this a known bug or what??

Any help would be greatly apprecited!!
Thanks!!!

Voltech

I think youll find that most 001 users dont even deal with that control panle. Life is nicer when you leave the mac's sound control panel alone.
Just patch your mac's outputs into whatever your monitoring Pro tools with.
This way you will never have to deal with the sound control panel. Its just bad news.

Say, does anybody know where to get an adapter from the proprietary G4 audio port to something normal?

Your G4 has a proprietary port? Mine has a standard small jack.

I'm using the Digidesign control panel to route the system sounds through the digi001, I listen to mp3s and stuff everyday and never noticed any problems? Only thing is that if I want to run Logic Audio I have to quit all aplications that might have used the sound drivers first. Kinda stupid.

See "using Monitor Mode" in the "getting started with the 001" booklet, pg 40.

To "NP -studios" .com,,

In regards to the Sound Control Panel issue here, duh, "No kidding" that you can route the Mac internal sounds to the 001's monitors. Thats obvious, the problem is, that the the new Quicksilver MACs dont have a speaker output , only a headphone output which has an incredibly degraded , low output sound.

There is something else happening here with the link in Digidesigns switch over to "Digidesign" in the control panel. This is an issue .
