Question Deleting version 7 to install version 8

I just got a new computer...you probably know what I'm going through...I had XP and Pro Tools 7. I now have Windows 7. Since Pro Tools 7 won't work on Windows 7, I got Pro Tools 8.

I can't install Pro Tools 8 until 7 has been deleted from my system. When I try to delete it, I get the message that I need Windows XP operating system to delete it.

I'm going crazy.

Your first mistake was installing W7 over XP. I know it's possible to do it, but it's a horrible idea.

Installing a new OS over an old one just breeds compatibility issues with previously installed software. Your best move is to format the hard drive and install W7 completely fresh. Then you can install whichever compatible software you want without having to worry about mismatched versions holding you down.

Agreed. Meanwhile, the PT8 installer includes an UNinstaller. Run that first.
