A Simple Porblem I Can\'t Figure Out - Copy Regions
Greetings....
I am a Sonar user that have recently started to use PT on a more full time basis. I know how to copy a region and even repeat or duplicate a series of regions. The question/issue is this: In Sonar one can lasso/select a group of clips/regions within a track or series of tracks and click CTRL, drag and copy the entire group to another location on the same timeline - a very fast way of copying tracks and clips. Is there a way I can do this in PT? I thought I seen this done before on a MAC...but I, for whatever reason, can't get this simple function figured out. Am I wrong to say that click CTRL-drag and copy is not a PT function? How do you manage to emulate similar behavior in PT? - KB |

In the top left of the edit window you will see the selectors for the smart tool. Click and hold the grabber and you will see three options; a hand and a hand with a scissors and and hand with a region in it. This is the option you want. It allows you to Lasso multiple regions across tracks

Also, holding Shift and selecting the desired regions with the Grabber achieves the same results. Then you also have the option of 'Group/Ungroup' command if running 7.x and higher.

So if I hold the SHIFT key...would this essentially copy as I move the regions? Please excuse as I try to grasp the differences in hosts. - KB |

Funny though I have a copy of Pro Tools LE 7 Ignite and in the Windows Shortcuts section it does mention the function that I am seeking...but it doesn't work. Weird. Anyway not crucial as I learned an alternative way to dupe regions. Thanks all..for your suggestions. - KB |

Re: A Simple Porblem I Can\'t Figure Out - Copy Reg
If you looking to just duplicate 1 or more regions, then why not just hold ALT and Left Click/Drag with the grabber in Grid or Shuffle mode? This will enable you to copy regions quite fast, and if you are working with a grid, this will work super quick, or if you need to use it over and over again, there is ALT+R. Hope this helps, as well if you want to duplicate backwards, then use CNTRL+START+ALT
