Default Is Pro Tools 10 64bit Yet?

Hi im still stuck on Pro Tools 9.0 , reason i'm not upgrading yet is cause people telling me its not 64bit yet. I havn't been checking updates regularly hence why i'm asking this question.

My system atm is intel i7 2600k , Win 7 Ultimate 64bit, DD3 Ram 16gig.

If PT 10 is still 32bit does this meen, it only see's 4gig and the rest of the 12gig just sit there do nothing while PT , VST, Plugins are all running at once ?

This will help me if the PRICEY! upgrade is worth it.

Thanxxx

Pro Tools is, and will remain a 32bit application until version eleven is released. If you need to access more RAM, you can host a ReWire application (such as Reaper) in Pro Tools until then.

With lots of RAM, getting 10HD or 10 with the CPTK would allow you to assign RAM to disk caching of audio. I have 12GB and assign 6GB to disk cache so PT loads all the audio for the session into RAM. That improves performance As said, PT11 will be the first 64 bit version.

Doesn't disk cache only apply to HD, HDX & Native setups? And what does the rest of my 12gig of ram do atm since PT is 32bit. Do VST's and RTAS plugins use that remaining ram ? I rewire Reason 6 sometimes i cant have too many Line 6 module amps or too many RV7000 verbs cause I'll run into buffer errors and I got it set to 1024 for mixing down. Whens PT 11 expected to come out ?

Buffer errors are CPU related most of the time. And I'm a Mac guy, but I'd think there would be some similarities. So I'd think under a 64-bit windows OS PT would have it's 4 GB, and the OS could use ram outside of that. Also some VI's can set up a memory server to address ram outside of PT's. So you may be using more than 4 GB as it is. However amp sims are notorious CPU hogs. On any system.

I believe I've read where pro tools is suppose to get yearly updates. So I'd think we'd see PT10 later this year.

You have seen what pricing is like if you skip a version? I believe it's $299 for 9 to 10, but $499 for 8LE to 10. So you may save a little by skipping 9, but IMO the other features 10 adds (mainly clip gain) is worth the $100 you might save by skipping a version.

However the price of getting the CPTK just for the disc cache (which is all I want from it) is ludicrous. I do hope that is included in PT11.

I agree with CME - I think the amazing ease of Clip Gain (and maybe the quality of the Channel Strip plugin) together make the upgrade worth it. Life just got so much simpler with just those two things.

And I'm just a hobbyist - I can't imagine how happy a real working studio would be with those features.

Plus - 10.2 is working really well for a lot of people here on the DUC. My install went perfectly and swimingly. Of course, still looking forward to PT 11 and 64-bit too.

Cubase 6 & Reason 6 both have the clip gain features and both those programs are 64bit , also when I rewire Cubase 6 & Reason 6 in 32bit mode both programs take up very LITTLE CPU power. But when I rewire Pro Tools 9 & Reason 6 sometimes it struggles WHY?
Well I hope that Pro Tools 11 64bit is True and very soon release otherwise it's goodbye digidesign/avid for me since i been using it the days of PT LE 6.4

You'll still benefit with your 12G of RAM. Your system allows PT to use the full 4G and the OS will take up 1-2G. You can always run a PT session in a nonvolatile RAM disk and get the same benefits as the Disk Cache(Even better in my opinion). RTAS and VST plug-ins run within the 4G limit of PT.

ReWire plug-ins and apps however run outside of the PT 4G limit, which is a good thing. This is why many host their VI's in a separate ReWire host such as REAPER, VE Ensemble and others etc.

Avid will never comment on releases. My own guesstimate, from what I've seen with PT releases over the past 12 years, would be the last business quarter. There's always been a big release at that time period.

disk cache applies to HDX, HD, HD|Native, and native PT w/CPTK. PT10 allows disk cache to run outside the PT10 address space on 64bit boundaries...no 32bit limit there. and it ONLY applies to audio files and playback.

Once after PT11 64bit is released, will PT11 support existing 32bit RTAS plug-in effects & instruments from 3rd parties with any bridge (64->32) facility? Or do we have to upgrade every 3rd party plug-ins to AAX?
