Default Fast Track C400 - general problem with driver?

Hello,
a few weeks ago I bought C400. It is quite a good interface but I have registered one specific problem with its driver in connection with DAW software, which was mentioned by many users. Always when I disconnect C400 from USB and connect it again, DAW (Cubase) can NOT recognize it again, until I reinstall the driver again! And of course, it a serious problem, when you need to reinstall the driver always when you need to disconnect the interface and connect it again. After reinstallation it works fine, but when I disconnect it, the problem is here... Very annoying and since this problem seems to be general, probably it is a problem of functionless driver... Moreover it sometimes causes freezing of the computer or BSODs.
Any help or comments?
Thanks

Do you reboot between unplugging/plugging? I have one myself and have not experienced this problem, not that that rules out a driver issue or anything. Is the C400 detected in Device Manager when you reconnect it?
Can you post your full system specs or a Sandra report? It helps to know the OS specs to diagnose.

Also, you're using the latest drivers from the AVID website right?

Joel

Hi,
yes I reboot often between plugging/unplugging. It is a notebook so I need to have it mobile... So when I reconnect it, everything is OK in Windows, it is recognized, but its not recognized in CUBASE until I reinstall the driver.
The driver is latest for sure
System is icore5 2,5Ghz, 4GB ram, Windows 7 64bit

Thanks for reactions

HI the team would need a few more info about your problem

First would you mind doing a sandra report so we can have more info on your system.

Then can you please let us know what driver # you are using and also if this happens with other daws beside cubase.

Had the same problem on windows 7, Ableton Live refused to see c400, not after I unplugged it, but randomly, once in a week or so.
On Windows 8, with latest driver from Avid, everything was fine for a while, but yesterday not only Live, but every single application in my system stopped streaming audio via c400. Foobar either showed the message "Unrecoverable playback error: Audio data format not supported by this device" or just played the music, but with no sound.
I reinstalled the driver, everything worked, but now after a couple of minutes after I press "play" in foobar, the music drawns in rattle, then rattle turns into silence, after that once in a while the music plays for a second, unrecorgnizable and distorted. The whole process repeats after restarting the player. I always used 96kHz for the sake of low latency, but never had this symptoms before, my Pc always managed it.

Have you gone through the Optimization Guides? Specifically this:
  • Open the Start menu. Right-click on Computer and choose Properties.
  • Click on Device Manager in the upper left corner.
  • In the Device Manager window, double-click on Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
  • Double-click on the first USB Root Hub item.
  • Click on the Power Management tab.
  • Uncheck the box that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power." and click OK.
  • Repeat this process for all other USB Root Hub items.

I had same kind of problem with streaming. Larger buffer size helped me.
New driver 1.1.5 needs more buffer than older ones. (I Don't know why.)
Go to Fast Track C400 Control Panel -> Setup -> and increase the buffer size.
You can read more information from Fast Track C400 User Guide of setting correct buffer size. I tested all kind of things to get this work and last of all I read the manual.

Streaming problem raises its head again. There must be a bug in 1.1.5 driver and Windows 8 X64 compatibility. Larger buffer helped 3 days. Now I can't stream anything With Fast Track C400. First it streams couple of seconds, then sound get metallized and stops. After that metallized sound pops and get silent repeating that. At first look I would say that c400 is broken, but if I downgrade the driver to 1.0.7 there is no problem and I don't need any extra buffer.
I use Belkin pro series usb 2.0 4,8 meter cable. I have tried shorter cable and different usb2 slots. Didn't help. All power savings are off, also usb root hub. A good thin about this new driver is that it works after sleep mode."when it works"
Maybe I have to downgrade and wait for better win8 supported driver.?
I have i5-3350P @ 3.10GHz,
8GB memory + 4GB usb2 stick in ready boost,
Windows 8 x64,
M-Audio Fast Track C400
I use Sonar X2a Studio software.
If you noticed some spelling errors and Finnish accent, I am not a Pro I am Proto.

Older driver works.
When do we get new Win8 driver to Fast Track C400?
Any comments from Avid?
