If we get the update to PT11 before 2015,how about PT12?

If we get the update to PT11 HD before 2015, we have support till march 2016. How about if PT 12 comes out during this period? Do we also get to upgrade to PT12 at no additional costs?

That is the tactic Avid will take to get all of us who are not paying for the coverage today, to force us to earlier than 2016, because we all know that will be required if we wish to continue with future versions of PT.

My guess is that Avid will HAVE to release 12 (or whatever they call it) before March 2016, otherwise there would a lot of very unhappy people who signed up to the support plan and got insufficent in return.

However, I can't see any incentive for Avid to release 13 (or whatever they call it) before those support plans come up for renewal. Why would they?

Of course, as we know, Avid has said that it is movng away from major release cycles to releasing smaller scope 'cool new feature' updates more regularly. What is going to be of most interest to people like me (who have decided not to join the support plan, ever) is how they will provide bug fix updates that are not part of 'cool new feature' upgrades.

Personally, I can't see that happening to any great extent, as it would be way too complex. We may get one or two bug fix only releases, but when a 'cool new feature' upgrade is released, can we really hope/expect that Avid will be able to carry on releasing bug fix updates for the older version? Any bug fixes that are included in that 'cool new feature' upgrade will IMO only be accessible to people on a support plan.

Unless Avid develops a much more complex feature unlocking process, to allow people to get those bug fixes but not the new features. And, of course, implementing that concept would put a final nail in the coffin of Avid's misleading declaration that CPTK was withdrawn for stability and reliability reasons.

I just posted about that too in another thread earlier. I too believe PT 12 is coming out in first quarter of 2016. The end of March date is not coincidence.
