Hi there! I'm having a bit of a problem getting this thing set up. I have an older Akai MPD16 control unit. It's a USB MIDI pad thingy. I simply can NOT get Pro Tools to find and recognize the thing. It's really frustrating.
I know that the controller is actually connected to my computer: I held down the Active key and the red light comes on, so it's getting power. I installed the Akai MPD16 utility, which also installs the MPD16 driver for OS X, and the utility recognizes the device, so there's a good connection from the laptop to the controller. So in Pro Tools, I go to Setup->Peripherals... then click MIDI Controllers. I get 6 entries there:
- None
- Command8
- HUI
- MotorMix
- SurroundPanner
- M-Audio Keyboard
I don't have any of those things other than the M-Audio keyboard, an Axiom 61. But obviously none of those things is my MPD16 controller.
What am I doing wrong or missing here? I'd love to be able to get this controller to work, but is it just too old? That seems a little silly: MIDI over USB hasn't really changed all that much over the years!
My system specifics are:
- OS X 10.7.5 on a Macbook Pro
- Pro Tools 10.3.2 (I upgraded from 10.2 hoping that would fix the problem!)
- MPD16 drivers v2.0
Not sure what other info would be relevant. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!
