I am curious to know if anyone else is having display issues with the new 8.0.3 update in 10.5.8.
I am currently running a Mid-2009 MacBook Pro 17" with 10.5.8. Prior to running 8.0.3, I was using 8.0.1cs1 and I had a display stuttering issue that I could easily reproduce. If PT8 was the FIRST app that I started upon rebooting, zooming and scrolling was a smooth as butter. Then I close PT, open FireFox and Mail, close them both, and reopen PT8, I get a stuttering display when I pressed play. I tried deleting the databases and every other troubleshooting step I could find, but the only way to fix this issue was to reboot. This isn't hardware related as I can reproduce the problem with my MBox Micro, MBox Mini, and 003+. Now upon updating to 8.0.3, I get this issue regardless of if PT8 is the first app I open or not. In my opinion, this makes PT8 absolutely USELESS for my fast editing style. I am afraid to update to 10.6 (although I have the disk to do so) for fear of it being a HUGE hassle to get it back to 10.5.8 and 8.0.1. Any ideas? Suggestions?? Is it safe to update to 10.6?? Thanks, Stewart |

Which version of Quicktime are you using?
What codec is the video using? Have you tried videos with different compression codecs? Which drive is the video playing back from? Which drive is your audio playing back from? |

I am not trying to play back any video, i.e. no video tracks.
The playhead is not scrolling smoothly across the edit window, nor are zooming and mouse scrolling smooth as stated in the original post. This occurs both with sessions played back from my dedicated audio drive AS WELL as sessions with NO tracks whatsoever. It seems to be something related to the rate at which PT is refreshing the display. My QT version is 7.6.4 |

Can you do a quick test of this from a new admin account?

Awaiting your next instructions. |

I'm really not sure exactly what the cause would be - my inclination would be to do an uninstall/reinstall of Pro Tools.
One thing to try before that - remove all plug-ins from the plug-ins folder, trash prefs, restart and test again. There's a chance it may be plug-in related, if only a slim one. |
