Default H/w buffersize from 2048 to 1024

hy guys, i didn't find anything on this, as i normally do, so here's my first post:

i recently got a 003 and since that i only have a maximum buffersize of 1024.
it's always been 2048 with my m-box 2 so i'm a bit confused...

hope someone knows what happened...

Cheers

Zino

I don't know all the details, but I do know that the 003/002 family uses a different driver from the Mboxes for the most part. The 003 will actually allow you to use a smaller buffer than the mbox.. down to 64 or 32 samples.

If this is actually due to the fact that FireWire is more efficient than USB, I'm not sure.

Really, the only downside to not having 2048 is if you regularly max out your CPU and need the huge buffer just to get your session to play through. If that isn't the case then you shouldn't be using such a huge buffer in the first place.. Usually people want less IO latency, not more...

That's odd, I had a moment recently (between tracking & mixing) when I went to set my buffer size, and thought, "hmm, didn't I used to have 2048 as an option here?" But 1024 was the highest. I'm using an Mbox 2 Pro, same as I always use...
