Default If you were starting from scratch what plugs would you buy?

I've been a PT user for over 20 years. Over the years I've bought many plug-in from Izotope, Eventide, Boz, IK Multimedia and of course Waves. Also Artuia V8 and Falcon

Regarding Waves I recently went from Gold to Platinum. It was cheaper than doing WUP. There are a few Waves plugs I may update like Reel ADT.

Recently bought a Mac Studio and in the process of transitioning.

This is a non commercial studio.

Plugs I thought were essential : Izotope Ozone. I've been a Ozone guy since Ozone 3. I can upgrade for $149 US, which is over $200 CAD

Worth it?

I'm on a PT perpetual license (for now) and trying to learn and love logic.

So, happy to hear form fellow DUC posters as to what to keep, what to ditch and how to move forward.

Sonnox everything and Eventide everything is plenty, in addition to Avid everything. Don't really "need" anything else. Massey everything is also nice to have and I always buy every new plugin to support that one man shop.

Avid stock plugins I find more than enough. The only thing I’d add would be a nice reverb and a harmonizer like the free eventide quadravox.

Fabfilter Pro Q3 and Sonnox Dynamics would be the first.

The problem with buying loads of plugins, is that they will be littered over old sessions you have to occasionally open. Then you'll be paying for updates on plugins you no longer use regularly. I know from my own experience!

Now that I've gotten used to using the SSL UC1 controller - and a SSL Native channelstrip on every track, that would be my very first priority. Not to mention the SSL Bus Compressor, it lives on my main out. The plugins come with the hardware, and they sound so lovely in addition to letting me mix without looking at a screen.

Reverb: a simple convolution reverb like W IR-1, and my new favourite room simulator: Savantaudiolabs Quantum 2772 Evolution.

I would need one good allround harmonics/saturation plugin, BX Black Box, Kelvin, Vertigo VSM-3, SSL X-sat, Fabfilter Saturn, I can't decide. But I would definitely need the Neold Big Al.

That's the basics mostly covered. For more creative stuff; as someone mentioned, a good selection of Eventide plugins, and I'd be all set.

Added: Oh, and Empirical Labs Arousor.

For me? The less plugins the better.
How many mixes have I screwed up with too many plugins?
Record the parts right in the first place with good mic's, I/O, instruments/amps and VI's (if you're using them) and you won't need so many plugins.
I'm currently fascinated with Gullfoss and the Weiss DS1 Mk III.
The AVID plugins can do a lot.
And - oh yes - keep the arrangements as well organized and clean as they can be. A few instruments can do an awful lot if well arranged.

What gets used the most here for traditional band and singer are:

Fabfilter EQ
Fabfilter L2
UAD 1176 AE
UAD LA3A
UAD Capital Chambers
UAD SSL G Buss
Ozone widener

A recent rise to the top of the list is the UAD Motown EQ on the master buss.

Hmmm, for me, I could do what I do with the Slate bundle and maybe a dozen or so Waves singles and Melodyne

AVID, Sonnox and Soundtoys, covers about 90% of my needs. Maybe a couple other reverbs and effects from Relab and Eventide.

There are also the specialty tools like Melodyne, RX and Revoice Pro that are huge time savers/miracle workers.

I don't like the iZotope model and tend to avoid their products. I do buy RX but I don't stay current.

I never bought into Waves and have never felt like I'm missing anything.
