Default Pro Tools Copy/Paste Assist to new track is gone....

Hello,
I am on an iMac Pro (2017) Using Monterey 12.6 OS. I'm updated on the latest Pro Tools Studio Version 2022.9.0

Pro Tools had a copy/paste assist function that I had stumbled upon in the past and have loved using. It works as I select a region to copy on a selected track - I then click to select the track below, and a "mirror-region" appears, in that it perfectly mirrors the selection from the track I just copied from. I click 'Paste' and the audio is copied, exactly in the same timeline position as the audio above.

Somehow this function seems to have disappeared - I may have some settings that are getting in the way? I've tried changing to different modes, 'Slip' and 'Grid', for example.

But I can't locate it. When I try to do the copy/paste, I copy but my cursor won't situate itself on the track below (for pasting). I just get a cursor that spans vertically over all the tracks at once.

I appreciate any assistance. Many Thanks,
Frank B.

Sounds like you want to enable “link timeline and edit selection”. That will get the behavior you’ve described.

You have also 'option-drag selection' to another track that will copy it.

It seems like there are many ways to do this kind of editing now. I got used to selecting a section >> Command-c (copy) >> ; (semi-colon - for next track down) or p (next track up) >> Command-v to paste. All stays correctly in time and you can then slide the ins and outs and add crossfades as needed. Slick!

It's hard to know exactly what is going on from your explanation. If you could post a video showing it, it would definitely help. But from what I am understanding, DontLetMeDrown sounds is probably right that you have "Link Track and Edit Selection" turned off.

That's this button (See attachment)

Thanks Guys - The 'Link Timeline and Edit Selection' did the trick. Now if I can just remember that next time this comes up!

Thanks Guys !!
