Default Waves Abbey Road Studio 3

Waves has their Abbey Road Studio 3 plugin on sale for $50 for working on headphones. I was wondering if anyone here has it or has used it? From the videos it does look interesting.

Just wondered what some of you all think of this type of plugin. Its on the same vein as the Waves NX headphone plugin. It will work with the Nx bluetooth headtracker too.

Just my 2 cents: At $50, I would be very tempted. I have Sennheiser HD280's and the plugin has a preset for that model of headphones. While I don't call the demo an amazing event, it does feel less like phones and overall, I thought things were better than without(though I couldn't care less about the head tracking bit). If I spent a lot of time on phones, I'd grab it, but I only use phones for a quick check of the bottom octave while mixing, these days.

Well, I figured for $50 why not. It does make things sound clearer and more spaced in the headphones. And I can get a better sense of things with the 3 speaker settings, far, mid, and near. I’ll have to spend time with it to get a better sense of it.

Being that it does what it says it does I have to ask if this would give me a truer idea of what's going on when working in mid/side? I wonder if it has a response curve for my ancient AKG K270 cans? And don't say that K271's are the same - they aren't. I have both and they have a totally different sound.

$45 when logged in at Audio Deluxe. Can't check at Best Service as both Firefox and Safari say the site isn't secure. Besides I didn't know that Best Service sold effects.

edit for additional:
Just checked at Best Service and it's $41.09 US right now.

I'm a Waves fan but I can't see the point of these things. I bought the NX plugin but I don't know why!

No, there isn't a response curve for the AKG K270's. I have a pair of those as well. But I prefer my Audio-Technica 30 series. Neither has a built in response curve for this plugin though. I have been thinking its time for a new pair of cans, though. Not sure which ones I want. When the COVID situation is over, I'll get over to Sweetwater and try out different ones and see what I like.

I have spent so much time with my K270's I know their response like the back of my hand. Have tried several other sets of cans and nothing has the bass response they do. Keep in mind I can't afford to spend 4 figures for a pair. I need any ones I buy to go completely over the ear and have a closed back.

What I used to like about the K270's was the little switch that would shut them down when not on my head. Then the switches stopped working so I took them out and rewired so I had a true 1/4 inch connection cable instead of that damned adapter. I actually had one come apart inside my mixer.

The key is getting the head measurement right.
