Default Please Help! Pro Tools 10 sound going crazy

Hi guys Im new to the forum.

I've been using PT for 5 years now and last week upgraded to PT10 and got a new PC specifically for it. I'm running an Mbox 2 with the following:

Operating System: Microsoft® Windows 7™ Professional 64
Chipset: Intel® H67 Chipset
Processor: Intel® Core™ I7 2600 3.40GHz 3MB L2
4 Cores/8 Threads & Turbo Boost (3.80GHz)
Hard Disk: 2TB
Memory: 12GB DDR III 1333MHz
Graphics System: 2GB (DDR3) Nvidia GT530 (VGA,DVI,HDMI)

Problem is that I'll load a session, playback and recording will be fine for a while then out of nowhere (and without any DAE errors) the sound will go nuts. It stutters, becomes distorted, and it sounds like its slowed down.

I've tried all combinations in my playback engine and whenever I change something it works for a bit, then it will happen again.

Any help is much appreciated.

Well, one place of many, to check... if Ignore RTAS Errors is CHECKED,

Uncheck "Ignore Playback Errors" in your Playback Engine, and see if "Instead of noise" proTools stops and spits up a -9093 a -9094 or a -9129 error. if it does, the background services, apps, are causing a CPU conflict with Pro Tools Playback engine, and you'll have to chase down the conflict outside of ProTools.

If thats not it..
This could also be Disk corruption.. Move the session to a completely different hard drive, and see if it happens from the other drive.

It could also be the mbox drivers corruption, uninstall and reinstall your drivers, if it persists download a new set of them.

Did you build this computer? Did you perform all the Windows tweaks? Did you setup BIOS correctly, including setting the RAM timings? Often, using the AUTO setting will "dumb it down" and hurt performance. I feel your pain as I have a new i5/P67 system that just won't settle down

I have reinstalled the mbox drivers to no avail. Will do a full PT reinstall today. I'll post a sandra report today also.

I also double checked my PT Windows optimisations and they are all done, but I'm still having this issue.

Albee1952 are you having the same problems with your new system? Mine was built for me.

What sort of BIOS changes are you referring to? Is there a guide somewhere that could help me with that?

Ok so I think I fixed it.

I went back and had a look at my network cards and I don't think one of them disabled properly when I was doing the Windows optimisations. I disabled both of them and then checked a sessions in Pro Tools. The sound changed, it was still bad, but not as much.

I then checked my windows audio preferences and it seemed like my internal soundcard was conflicting mith my mbox2. So I disabled it and voila! Pro Tools has been running smoothly since.

Such a relief. Thanks for the help guys

Nice! Are you recording to a separate hard drive(NOT the system drive or a partition of it)? that's a must if you want to work on more than a handful of tracks(Avid calls it a requirement....period).
