A VI Oddity with PT
I ran into a baffling issue with a VI which I'll describe here. After mixing a piece, I attempted to bounce to disk, only to get a message that I needed to increase the buffer. Well, doing that didn't solve the issue. By process of elimination I determined that the culprit was a particular VI I had instantiated on an instrument track and was using in the piece. The VI was one I had installed off a CD included with Computer Music mag, and it is called Genesis. Its a cool little VI with some great, fat sounds. I was using the FXpansion VST wrapper for it.
I should add I'm using PT LE 8.0cs3 MBox 2 Mini with Win XP SP3. In the end, I converted the instrument tracks that used Genesis to audio tracks and had to completely remove the Genesis VI from the session for the bounce to disk. Once I did that, everything was fine. This was a new one. I can't figure out why or how one particular VI prevents bouncing to disk. Can anyone shed some light as to why something like this would happen? I've used lots of different VI's, AIR's, Reason, several VST's I got off CM or other CD with mag freebie and never had an issue. This was the first time I had used Genesis, though. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Re: A VI Oddity with PT
I get errors during bouncing sometimes also. I think It's mostly related to wich plugin you are using.
With resource hungry plugins the problems get worse. Especially at low hardware buffer size Just to eliminate you could try deleting preferences and Digi databases if not already done. |

Re: A VI Oddity with PT
Yes, AFAIK, I have the latest version. It's the only VI or plug-in I've ever encountered this problem with.

Re: A VI Oddity with PT
If this is the only time you've had any kind of problem like this, then count yourself lucky!
Seriously, it's easy for a bit of dodgy code to bring the whole thing down like a house of cards. One plugin installed on your system that's out of whack can bring your whole workstation to its knees. I would say that a free VI off the front of a magazine would be even more prone to these types of problems especially if it's a wrapped VST too. |
