Default 003 Factory - Red Wine Modification

Maybe there was a subconcious urge to change the 003's colour - but perhaps a glass of finest Aussie red wasn't the brightest idea. So spillage later, the board beneath the headphones is quickly corroding and looks as though the total repair bill may well mean a write off for the entire unit. Gulp!

So, rather than go out and get another 003 Factory, it occurs to me that I at no stage used more than 2 inputs on the unit. I hardly ever used the double headpone facility or indeed the faders. I do a lot of writing in the mix - so maybe I should downgrade. But to where ?
To the 003 Rack, or to MBox2 or ? I need to use the 48 track option. And I don't a loss in quality of microphone signal. I have no external pre - the 003 was quite satisfactory.

Any thoughts about what I would lose by going down to MBox2?

Thanks

Richard P

my understanding is that you need a FW box for 48 tracks
you might want to look at the MBox Pro (split the difference)

You will be fine going to an Mbox2 or Pro...48 tracks, no problem. The preamps are decent enough.

I'd be leary of going to anything that's USB-based instead of FW. The latency and CPU-overhead issues will likely drive you nuts after not having to deal with them with the 003.

I would probably consider a MB2Pro or a used 002R if I were you.

My thanks everybody.

The info re USB/Firewire certainly helps me make a decision re which PT format to head for.

As to changing to white wine, mmmm - life's too short!
