Default Moving to Mac Studio Ultra... first version of a new line.

Hello,
Time has come to make the big move :

Mac pro 5.1 (2010) to Mac Studio Ultra + Sonnet Echo III for my PT HDX rig (2 HDX cards - 3 HD I/O interfaces)

- Considering it's been almost a year that the Mac Studio was launched.

- Considering also that, since 90's, I have never bought a first version of new Mac considering this would be safer to get the "improved" revisions, just like OS upgrades...

- Considering Mac Studio is even more the type of Mac I wouldn't buy years ago : new line, new chip, new architecture

Do you have any thoughts about my "concerns" ? Is my way of considering "V1 macs" outdated ?

Thanks.
Raf

Without question, yes. The Mac Studio has proven itself as reliable. I say this by staying tuned into the topic and reading what has been written, and also by having one of my own and testing it thoroughly. You should completely remove "1st version" from your list of factors.

Thanks for sharing.

One thing is sure is that Macbooks have been updated more frequently than Mac Pros and Mac Minis for the last ten years !

You should be watching Apple’s March event announcements. Everything else you need to know is covered in recent threads on DUC. Including be aware of known issues with HDX cards and expansion chassis and Apple Silicon Macs. Google search with site:duc.avid.com qualifier.

Yeah, I have browsed the DUC and learned a lot as usual

Most problems were reported with HD Native cards, not really with HDX, plus this Sonnet Chassis looks to be the no brainer pick.

About The Event, no one knows when it will be scheduled... already March 12, no teaser... no extra delivery delays for Mac Studio on the store...

I went from 5,1 to an Ultra Max Studio in December and have zero regrets.

(Although I did go from an HD-Native system to Carbon, but also no regrets there - aside from wishing the going rate for used HD IOs was about a grand higher when I sell mine)

I doubt there will be any movement at all w/ the Mac Studio. No new models. Mac Pros on the other hand... but that's an entirely different price category.

And I doubt I would need more than a full option Mac Studio... which makes already a pricey unit.

Yeah. I read an article where the writer thinks the Mac Studio is a one off to be discontinued once the Mac Pro comes in. The mini the becoming the "studio" with future upgrades.

Not so sure but interesting hypothesis. Of course only Apple knows. I'm really interested to see what the new Pro looks like. If priced too high my next mac is going to be a Studio.
