Thanks Darryl! This is great info. I definitely fall into the camp of folks that tries to use a dedicated drive for audio units separate from my boot drive (even though it’s a speedy Mac SSD), so this is super useful. Now if only those internal SSDs were upgradable on the newer MacBooks… but I digress.

The only thing spinning near my computer is the time machine drive -- it just makes sense to keep that as an HDD. Though, when a 10TB SSD becomes cost effective that's getting an upgrade too.

Default APFS no more ?

Okay so I purchased the 2TB Samsung T7 drive to use as my project drive.

What file system should this drive be formatted in? APFS?
