Default Asio...Beta testing?

Hi Everybody,

I was just thinking...Since Digi`s already developing asio driver, it would be nice to have a kind of public beta to make it more reliable on different systems.

What do you think?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Yes that sounds very nice.
Will this ASIO driver let Cubase work with
the 8 inputs and outputs instead of just two
like with the WAV driver?

Where and when did DIGI say they're developing an ASIO driver. Please tell... I must know.

Third-party applications can use Digi HW today if they write to the DIO interface (the "native" software driver interface for Digi HW). In fact, DIO and ASIO are quite similar, so it wouldn't be too hard for 3rd-party application developers to use DIO if they're already supporting ASIO.

We've been disappointed by the adoption rate of DIO by other companies. I guess it's somewhat understandable when there are so many different "standards" out there (MME, DirectSound, ASIO, and that standard for GigaSampler).

Digi has had a "wave driver" for quite sometime now that supports all the Digi HW. This can be used by most sound applications, although it's limited to stereo I/O, and there are some performance and compatibility issues (the legacy MME wave driver standard from Microsoft wasn't too hot).

I'm going out on a limb here (and please don't take this as an "official Digidesign promise"), but since I've read so much complaining on this topic recently, I'll go for it:

We're working on new audio drivers that will enable 3rd-party applications to work with Digi HW. I can't say when we'll have beta releases available, but these drivers are currently under development. We've got a preliminary ASIO-to-DIO driver that will allow 3rd-party ASIO clients to work with our hardware (e.g., 001, 002).

We're also working on a WDM Audio Driver for DirectSound client applications.

The ASIO driver is likely to be ready first, but it's in a very early form right now, so we won't have a beta till later this year.

Does this mean that PT LE will also be able to use any other ASIO sound card, such as my M-Audio Delta 66 with the omni I/O box?

Logic Audio does support DIO, but there is still no standalone DIO driver for Windows XP. How will XP users who don't have Pro Tools LE be able to use the ASIO-to-DIO driver when there's no DIO available for them?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">No. This means that you will be able to use ASIO compliant software like Reason and Acid with your Digidesign hardware.

What uses direct sound these days? Is that like direct X?
