I have the 1176 and 2A-LA plugins. They're both audiosuite and RTAS. They're great plugs, used most effectively on individual tracks, rather than the master fader. I like the 1176 on bass and vocals. They use a LOT of CPU. Do a search and you'll get all the information you require.

Put the Fairchild on the master fader and listen to what happens. The Waves L1 can't touch it.

OK, sounds good so far. thanks.. that's just what i was looking for. Keep em coming. I assume I could print that cpu hungry 1176 to another track and save the dsp so a 1176 would be the best for individual tracks and the Fairchild for the mix. Would I use the Fairchild on the mix bus or when I master or both?

Default Dynamics Plug Ins question. 1176, LA-2A, and Fairchild 660, which is best & for what?

I hear about these classic Plug In repros like the fairchild 660, UA 1176, and LA-2A, what are they best used on and which should I get?

Can they be used on a stereo track or submix? which is the best of the bunch (for single tracks like bass and vocals or the stereo mix) and for how much?
I feel like I have been missing something, kinda like when I finally tried Reason and went out and bought it the next day after playing with the demo.
These are the ones you most here about, please help me pick what i would use most.
I record mostly country although I am a heavy metal head but practically all my clients are country/rock, RAP, or Jazz in case your wondering.
I have seen these plugs and they are pretty damn simple. The VU for gain reduction was strange too, do they take some getting used to? I did like the sound so if anyone can just kinda go over each one i would appreciate it. Also a recomendation for something on the master mix bus would be cool if you have anything to suggest for that (if one of these won't do it).

Try both just as an A/B test. You'll probably get better results at the master stage. It's really discrete.

Also, the 1176 & LA-2A are both really great and in terms of CPU usage, you haven't incured serious loss until you apply Real Verb. Magnificant plug but my god is it a hog.

I have realverb and I can confirm that. Also.. is there some presets in realverb? I hate having to lower that reverb tail each time and change the surfaces just to get a useable sound. Thanks for the suggestions on that fairchild. i'll probably wait to use it after I mixdown so i dont squash everything.

I did a demo download of Waves and it has made a big difference, however when I tried to BTD I got an error stating the bounce handler could not keep up or something. I was using the L2 & low band EQ on AUX input and D Verb on the master. I switched to just EQ and still had the same problem. Help stated to convert after bounce which I did but still had the same problem, but then I tried again and it bounced...kinda weird. Would someone please tell me what is going on?

A great usefull way to use the Fairchild plug is to create a mono aux, place the Fairchild there, then bus individual tracks over to it...this allows you to use just the right amount per track, where/when needed to taste, without overdoing it.

This also helps to retain some dynamics as opposed to squashing/effecting all with the same setting.

Now throw an L1 or even better L2 on the master buss...best of all worlds!

Try it...you'll LOVE it!!!
