Default Confused about MIDI inputs and outputs

whats the deal with the Digi002 port 1 and 2. I have a keyboard hooked into a 002R and I can send midi but I still have to troubleshoot to get it sent and recorded then I still have to troubleshoot to hear it back, I have used other PT systems and they were pretty self explanatory because of the way they were setup but alot of things I'm used to doing aren't working out for me now. someone please give me assistance on this.

Select All as the difidesign Port1 input. make sure your keyboard is pluggen into the midi in prot on the 002r. If you are using an outboard tone generator, put the audio outs into the 002R audio ins ( lets say 1&2) In PT, select an audio ( or aux track ) and select Input - Audio 1&2 and out pit to 1&2 ( or wherever you are monitoring from. Rec Enable the midi track that has the Digi Port 1 delected. When you play, the midi notes will be triggered and the sound module will play thru the selected ins. Make sure that Midi Thru is selected in the Midi menu of PT and that Monitoring is set to Input and not Auto input.
If you are using a soft synth - insert it on a track, and it will get triggered by the midi keyboard. The only diofference is that Midi Out must be the soft synth and not Digi Port.
Make sure your keyboard or midi input device is connected and on before you turn on the 002R and open PT.
Good luck

Not necessary.

Tele, If I turn on the rack w/o having the keyboard on, PT does not see the ports. BUT, if I do have the ports by first turning on the keyboard, as long as the rack is not shut down, I can turn my keyboard on and off w/o losing the ports. This may be keyboard dependant and not a PT hardware issue. YMMV.

I don't have an 002R here, but on the 002 the ports show up regardless of if you have MIDI devices plugged in or whether they are turned on. On 6.1, the 002 MIDI ports wouldn't show up unless the 002 was powered up while Windows booted; this was fixed in 6.1.1 by making mmerefresh run as a windows service - but it should NEVER care whether there's a device connected or powered up.

I just tried and I can't succeed as you decribe. The MMRefresh.exe is running but the midi ports aren't recognized unless I turn off the rack, turn on the keyboard then turn back on the rack. If you have any suggestions... Thanks

Cliff

This sounds strange to me too.. the ports should always show up in Pro Tools 6.1.1 regardless of if you have anything plugged in or not.

Me too but I get no portsd unless I restart PT. Then they are back. I will check in Control Panel - Audio and make sure the device is listed ass default midi.
