Well it is first to check it on a consumer platform with i thought what was described as the intent of that feature in DAPS. Then by extension to distribute it for viewing as a quicktime to the friends of the composer. No streaming or mass release on Bluray

So it looks like encoding Atmos in the TruHD file is the only way to go. Do you know if there is a way to have a DAMS trial license like they do for DAPS

You can try to get the Dolby Media Encoder here

Keep in mind. This is not a Dolby Digital Plus encoding...

it actually IS a Dolby Digital Plus encoding with atmos (DD+JOC).
From the renderer manual (3.7.3) p.243:
18.13 Exporting a master as an MP4 master file
You can perform this task with the Dolby Atmos Renderer using a Production Suite or Mastering Suite license.
This allows you to export Dolby Atmos content for playback on Dolby Atmos enabled consumer devices (such as a Blu-ray player or Dolby Atmos enabled sound bar). For example, you can save the .mp4 file to a USB stick, connect the stick to a USB input port on the device, and then play back the file on the device.
The .mp4 file will be an H.264 format video elementary stream containing multiplexed Dolby Digital Plus with Dolby Atmos content, with black 720 × 1280 resolution at 24 fps (when black video or a custom video is included).

This works and I have done it a number of times. You just need a device that can play the mp4 with DD+ to the Marantz or other hometheater amp via HDMI to be able to listen to the Dolby Atmos (for a speaker setup)
It's not lossless TrueHD however and the DD+ bitrate will be 768 or 448 kbps with the mp4 export method.

Greetings,

Thierry

Thanks Thierry,
I did exactly that and it plays back in multi channel but i'm not really hearing what it should be .It almost sounds like an up res version of a 7.1
The original music mix is utilizing 7.1.4 fully with some discrete elements in the height channels and i'm not hearing that on playback.
Is it working like streaming where priority is given to the center channel then LR then surrounds. So if the bandwidth is restricted the eight channels are the first thing to go ?

I believe in a 5.1+JOC encode, like the .MP4, the 5.1 is encoded at 448kbps and everything else is 128kbps.

How long does it take Dolby to respond to an inquiry ?
I tried the link you provided to get Dolby Media Encoder on 02/25 but still didn't get a response. I left the line for Dolby contact person blank was that a requirement to have it filled in?
