Default Digidesign Tech Support READ! NEED HELP

First I should start with how this all came about. Installed the drum magog demo, when you do this BFD doesn't load I knew about this already cause I had installed the demo back in June. At that time I found a thread that told me to delete "com.fxpansion.fxshared.dll" from the system 32 folder, back then it worked Bfd then loaded fine and life was good the demo expired so I downloaded another on, my new computer which isn't brand new so don't make the mistake that I have just bought an incompatible PC (been running it for months), did the same thing and BANG access violations
causing PT to shut down when I tried to close and open seesions and all the tracks in the edit window were greyed out. So I restored the file to it's original folder, no luck. Uninstalled drum magog and Bfd...no luck. Performed a system restore to a few hours earlier, no luck again. So I tried uninstalling Pro tools and a message kept popping up saying "another version of Pro Tools is already installed on your computer please uninstall it from control panel add or remove programs before reinstalling" But i was there already trying to uninstall! anyways I performed another restore to a week earlier and everything seems to be fine I played around for an hour with no access violations only once it just closed with no error messages but it never happened again(a temporary glitch I think?) . So I went back to see if I could uninstall it at that point just to see if it would and I got the same message, so it's basically stuck on my computer and I wanna upgrade to 7.4 so I wanna know whats up, and I am still a bit sketched even though everything seems to be working normally do I have anything to worry about have system restores been known to fix registry tampering?
And can anyone tell me what they think happened as far as the access violations?
Was it the removal of the com.fxpansion.dll file that could have caused the crashing?
Setup is
HP A1440n i945 chipshet 2.8 ghz dual core 820 viiv processor, 2 250 Gig hard drives audio drive is western digital sata. 3 Ghz ram

Thank You any help would be amazing, by the way it's my first post but I'm on here all the time I love this place!

I found it very difficult to follow what problems/questions you had, so I will focus on the questions for now;
Quote:

I, personally, would never recommend Windows System restore for any serious backup. It is sketchy at best.

Better products would be disk imaging software such as True Image or Ghost.

As for if you have anything to worry about? I would say as long as you are protecting yourself with backups before installing "demo" software, you should be fine.

Access violations can be caused by numerous issues, and one of the most prominent is using incompatible plugins. Demos of plugins are notorious for not being updated to the necessary, recent versions.

Very possibly, but quite honestly, I've never heard of this "fix" you are talking about with removing "com.fxpansion.dll".

Yes. If you're having trouble uninstalling, use the PTNuke Uninstall Utility. That's one of the things that got lost in your run-on post there.

I think Ghost runs about $70, but I'm not really sure anymore; I haven't used ghost since I switched to True Image quite a few years ago. I definitely recommend and prefer True Image. It's only $50. (but worth every penny in lost time)

I thought I covered the fact that I had (and still have) a very difficult time deciphering exactly what your problem is.

Have I heard of someone having Access Violation errors? Most definitely.
Have I heard of someone not being able to uninstall/reinstall Pro Tools? Oh yeah.
Have I heard of someone installing demo software and having it completely corrupt the Pro Tools install? Yep.

Quote:

The uninstall utility is for any instance where, for one reason or another, the regular windows/Pro Tools uninstall procedure doesn't work properly, and you need to clean out all traces of Pro Tools. It was developed for cases like yours, but not your specific problem.
