Default Mix & Edit Windows as TABS in 1 Pro Tools Window

yes, a friend of mine had Catalina and an older version of Pro Tools 2020.x
and he was able to access his mix window within his edit window as a TAB, as you can in the MAC Finder.

all i want to know is if this is possible with latest Sonoma and PT Studio?
and if so how exactly to go about this.

i have searched this forum, and found few articles on it, with older OS's
but wasn't able to make it happen in Sonoma

please do not ask why i would want to do this,
or how easy it is to just cmd+= to get to mix page
and how i can just drag mix page to a 2nd monitor
i know all this already, but....

i just like the idea of having the mix window coexist within the edit window, and accessible via 1 click via a 2nd TAB

i will try to get a pic of this for those that are new to this like I was before seeing it in action.

thank you in advance everyone

REALLY handy if you’re using a single monitor, and I use one on my “backup” Windows rig. Following this to see if that’s doable!

sw_rec

i have a feeling that it's a Pro Tools "problem", meaning...
it's all floating windows now with PT, instead of Tabs,
because you can still have this Tab view in the Mac Finder Window...

No. this is a Mac settings.

Preferences>Desktop & Dock>Windows & Apps> Prefer tabs when opening documents [Always]

Go back to Pro Tools and close either the Mix Window or Edit Window. Then reopen either window and it will appear in a tab.

its2loud,

i tried that , and had those settings, and i can't make it happen,
you did it on Sonoma, and Pt Studio 2024.3 ???

all that happens, is it switches from edit, to mix, (when on 1 monitor),
it never creates a TAB, as seen in my pic above

i think this is a thing of the past but....

would LOVE to see that happen, can you confirm? make video?

thanks

Yes. However, I’m on Ventura. Not really sure why that would make a difference unless Apple or Avid broke this for Sonoma.

I didn’t have time yesterday to make a video.

The steps I provided work on both an Intel and M2 machine.

Great idea its2loud!

I can't seem to make mine work - also on Ventura - might be missing a step...

Hopefully you will get a chance to make a quick video of the steps to activate this...

Thanks,

Sparky
