Default Converting Stereo to Mono audio trax

In a session I've imported some audio tracks that in stereo but I need them in Mono. I can't find how to do this in the manual. There doesn't seem to be an option for this in the import screen either. There has to be a simple way. Can someone please point me in the right direction. Maybe I'm using the wrong search term in the manual search and index.

thanks

Or you can bounce to disc as a summed mono file meaning all detail form the left and right signal paths are included in the mono file.

A:)

Yeah but that sorta pointless to do being that u have to bounce the track vs just clicking & splitting

The only reason to do this (bouncing as summed that is) is if certain aspects of the track are panned hard left or hard right. Just splitting would lose this detail from either the left or right signal path whereas summing to mono would keep it.

thanks guys. I knew about the right click, but in a couple of these tracks I do need the summing option. I was hoping there was a simple point/click option rather than bounce to do that.

I wonder if it would make sense in a future upgrade to have the option on the import screen to sum to mono if importing a stereo track needed in mono?

Pan them both center? If it needs to be a single mono file for some reason, including uncorrelated signal from both channels, bouncing is your only option.

Just curious, why would you need a mono file *in PT* from a true stereo file? Why would you need to lose the stereo information? IOW, why not just pan center?

Well, in this instance its because I'm importing audio files I created on my Yamaha Motif using a Midi track on PT. However, on the Motif (XS-8), the only rec option in the File mode is Stereo. What I want to experiment with is combining some string patches using the same MIDI track to create a fuller sound. My thought was to create 5 or 6 mono tracks of the same MIDI track playing slightly altered versions of the same basic String patch, and then mix them in PT to create a fuller sounding string section.

I know I could do it using the stereo files, but thought I'd see if there was an easier step to convert stereo to mono. WHat I wanted to do is mix the several mono tracks down to one stereo master string track for the final mix...kinda like you'd do for a drum kit.

I've never tried doing it this way before, so its just an experiment to see if I'll get a richer sound.
