If I had a choice of computer to get, but no choice of audio software (being PTLE) I would go with a G4. If not........G5 it.......but still try waiting a few months before buying.

Hi,

I just did a PowerLogix dual processor 1.2gig upgrade on my DP450 for $800(US) (the price has since gone up $100). GigaDesigns has just annnounced a new, less expensive, dual line. But, the speed range of the dual upgrades being 1.2-1.4gig regardless of the manufacturer, I don't know what kind of speed-up you'd experience. You can, however, experience the thrill of setting your CPU usage to 99%, thus ensuring a full CPU for PT alone. Check the math..I'm now able to record 27 tracks with 5 digi plug-ins on each (DaveC test). The ups of an upgrade are you can wait out the technology; you get to keep your Ram, video card, internet settings (on a ProTools machine?!), etc. For less than 1/2 the price of a stock 1.6gig G5. That being said, why do you need so many plug-ins? Why??

Ummm... Don't think anyone makes a processor upgrade for iMacs (which is what he mentioned he had in the original post), do they?

If a dual 1.25 G4 is what you want, I've got one for sale. Go to the Buy and Sell section of this site or email me.
