Default Machine control not allowing me to record from Digibeta

HI,

Newbie question so my apologies - I have searched the forum but have not found a similar problem.

I have a sync HD, but am unable to dub from my Digibeta into ProTools. I can locate the deck and hear it scrub, but when I hit play on the PT transport, the deck does not chase! The transport is set for ProTools and my inputs are armed. Must be something really embarrassing - i hope at least! (I am able to perform the reverse - dub from ProTools to the deck by switching the transport to make the machine the master.)

thanks,
Roberto

"Apple J" puts ProTools online.
Maybe that's it.

Tried that and no luck! Actually now, when I try and layback to tape, no audio plays out from ProTools. I switch the master in the transport to machine and I can control the deck. I can then play the files and I see it on the deck. When I pop into record, nada!!!

Oddly, the first time I tried this a few weeks ago, I had no problems - must have changed a pref somewhere...

to layback to tape, the transport needs to be in machine mode. to capture into protools the transport needs to be in ProTools mode.

Thanks for the suggestions - that is exactly what I have done! Might have to give support a call on this one ...

You said you were a newbie, so excuse the elementary nature of this...

To me, this sounds like wrong frame rate or wrong TC protocol.

Do you have timecode lock? via which protocol? Correct frame rate?
Hit command+2(keypad) to open the project settings window.

What protocol is selected for timecode? Should be LTC. If you're locking to timecode via your 9-pin connection, make sure to check the box that says "use serial timecode for positional reference"
Frame rate should be 29.97 FPS.
Timecode generator must be off.

Also, are you using the right machine control profile? Should be DVW-500 or 550 usually.

For capturing, transport = PT.
For layback, transport = Machine.

Transport online for both.

Hope you don't need to call Digi support.

Oh also, the deck must be in remote mode, and inputs set to AES (i'm assuming you're using AES...)

Thanks very much Hummer,

It was the timecode generator on the bottom left of the project window that was on - not sure how that ever got turned on! Dubbing problem solved.

I still have the occasion where I get the warning that the sync IO has lost its sync, followed by another window indicating everything is OK. This happens very occasionally while I am working on a project while not being attached to any decks. Sync is supplied by our Evertz. Tested house sync path all the way to the Sync IO on a scope and wiggled every cable and it is solid. All our other decks, HD and SD are fine. Will investigate further and probably call support regarding this intermittent issue...

Just in case, i am using the latest software (as of August anyways) and hardware as pertains to D-Command, with HD Sync and using 9-pin from the first port. Decks are HDCam F500 amd dBeta A500 - obviously this issue dubbing from/to decks has been solved!

Roberto
