Default Pro Tools 9 and Mbox control Panel

Hi all

My problem is this. I have plugged my Roland Fantom XR sound module to my mbox via analog outputs on the Roland. When Pro Tools 9 is NOT running, the mbox control panel analog hardware inputs controls are working correctly and when I turn them up on the control panel, I can hear sound thru from the Roland, through my headphones that are plugged into the front of the mbox.

When I load up Pro Tools, I understand that Pro Tools takes over the mbox controls, and indeed the mbox control panel says 'Host Control Enabled'. This disables the analog hardware input controls. Problem is, I believe this has muted these channels, as it expects to receive these commands from Pro Tools. Sooo...WHERE in Pro Tools can I either unlute, or turn the volume up on these hardware input controls?? Logic says use the Mix Window and it's channels but this doesn't work. I've got a screenshot, and would post it if I knew how. Please help.

Hi,

First you have to make sure PT is in fact using the Mbox as the audio device. Go to the playback engine and make sure the Mbox is selected as the audio engine.

Then in the hardware setup page, make sure that the 2 analogue inputs are assigned to the Mbox inputs.

And in the I/O setup page make sure there are inputs created 1-2 and they are routed to the Mbox inputs.

Create a stereo aux input track and assign the inputs to 1-2 and you should now hear the fandom. If you want to record the fandom then create a stereo audio track and assign the inputs 1-2 then place into record mode.

Thanks Chris - that worked a treat. I would never have guessed at needing an auxilary track to hear the fantom. Much appreciated. One last question. I also have an S/PDIF cable from the Roland to the mbox. Should I be able to hear the Roland thru that? I tried configuring the auxilary track the same way to no avail. However, even when Pro Tools is not running, and the controls on the mbox are available for both analog and S/PDIF, I can't hear anything when only S/PDIF is plugged in. What's the S/PDIF for, if not sound?

Cheers
Calum
