Default Testing the gear

Hello, this might be a stupid question, but does recording 16 simultaneous tracks of silence put the same amount of stress on the computer as recording 16 simultaneous tracks of audio? I ask because I want to make sure my computer can handle that before I track a session. I recorded 10 sec of silence and audio, and found that they are the same size, which leads me to believe that if I can record 16 track of silence, then I should be able to record 16 tracks of audio. And everything coming out of the 002 is already converted to digital, right? I am going to use a Behringer ADA8000 and Digi Rack 002. Thanks.

My guess would be no.
If nothing else, screen redraws of wave forms would tax the system more, wouldn't it? I would also be inclined to believe that more resources are utilized in recording an actual dynamic source than would be with no source.
As I said, though, just guessing.

I believe the point to recording silence on the Davec is to even the playing field.

True, but I beleive it is minimal if a system is configured properly.

Good point though.

Is there a way of turning off screen redraws of waveforms? at least while its recording?
