Can any PT9 users confirm this works...?
Hi,
I tried posting on the PT9 board, but no takers.... I, like many others have been using either the built in digital-out on the Mac, or a dedicated second soundcard to pipe audio from the Mac (iTunes etc) into PT. There's a free app called Soundflower, which behaves like a hardware soundcard.... http://cycling74.com/products/soundflower/ I'm wondering if PT9 will see this as an available input device.... I can't check myself as I'm stuck in PT8 world on a PPC G5... Might save a bit of irritating external routing....? I'm also wondering if the multi output version of this might work as a link for Bidule....? Or indeed, standalone VEPro....? |

Yes, it will see it. It seems to work fine here, though we didn't put a ton of testing time into it...

That's great....
Certainly a handy workaround for the iTunes into PT thing... I wonder how stable it would be running something more critical...? Might breathe new life into Bidule...?

Re: Can any PT9 users confirm this works...?
I've been trying for days to make this work with PT9 HD/192 I/O with no luck. Can you give more details DigiTechSupt? I can get Pro Tools to recognize Soundflower inputs only if I change my PT playback engine to Soundflower, in which case I lose all my TDM inputs and outputs. I also get serious clocking issues.
I came very close to making the idea work with jackosx by launching jackosx, then launching PT, then assigning the playback engine to jackosx. Jackosx will run in addition to my 192 I/O ins and outs, not replacing them like Soundflower. I had audio passing from Logic, iTunes and standalone software instruments like BFD2 nicely. But as soon as I hit play or record in PT the transport would stop. Thanks in advance for any details. |

Didn't mean to hijack the thread Jon, I could start a different thread if necessary.

Quote:
Even in Native, I can't get PT9 and Soundflower to work on my system, I get a sample rate mismatch error... Soundflower doesn't report an exact 44,100Hz or 48,000 Hz sample rate in AMS. Rail

Re: Can any PT9 users confirm this works...?
Ok. I needed to hear that definitive reality.
My apologies again for hogging your thread Jon, but my follow up question is, is there a way to select "core audio" as a playback engine in PT9? Is that what the "Pro Tools Aggregate" is supposed to do? I'll wait to hear the answer to that before asking "how?"! Thanks much. |

Re: Can any PT9 users confirm this works...?
I read this in another thread:
I figured it out. For anyone else interested, here's what to do: 1. Download and install Soundflower. 2. In Audio/MIDI Setup, make an Aggregate Device consisting of your audio interface (Mbox 2 Pro, for example) and Soundflower (2 ch). 3. In Mac > System Preferences > Sound, set "Output" to Soundflower (2 ch). This forces the System audio to Soundflower. 3. In PT, set the Playback Engine to the Aggregate Device you made. 4. In PT > Setup > I/O > Input, rename the inputs if necessary to make them easier to find when selecting inputs on an Audio or Aux Track. Clicking "Default" may help. 5. In PT, create an Audio or Aux Track, and select the Soundflower input. 6. Play the Youtube video, record-enable the track in PT, and you should hear the audio coming from Youtube. Does the mBox 2 Pro not use the DAE driver? |

Re: Can any PT9 users confirm this works...?
what do you set your clock to?
or what is the best way if clocking sound flower? I originally noticed that the clock for soundflower was set to 'internal mic' - i was getting clicks and pops aswell. I then changed it to 'internal input' - i am getting better results from this. It still does randomly pop a bit, but way, way less. Basically - to me it sounds like a clocking issue between what clock actual 'protools' or what ever the DAW is using and what clock sound flower is using. I basically use it to route iTunes into Protools 9 - so doesn't that mean that there are 3 clocking and bit rate/sample rate situations going on? 1. What bit/sample rate and clock iTunes is outputting to Soundflower. 2. What bit/sample rate and clock Soundflower is using to route the digital internal audio. 3. What bit/sample rate and clock Protools is using and expecting to receive on its internal digital channel from Soundflower.

If you don't need to record your Mac audio in real time,
another option is get Audio Hijack and have it save your iTunes or YouTube audio to a Wav file and import that into Pro Tools. |
