Im thinking about branching into these areas more with my studio and would like any links/suggestions for books you have on how to develop skills in these areas?

Try the 'The Music Producer's Handbook' by Bobby Owsinski. Great book with interviews from producers from all genres.

Packed with tips.

This is just my opinion, but if ur theory is good, then I don't know what a book would do for u; Listening to things that u like for inspiration may be a better bet...but again, jus my thoughts...

Find an internship in a commercial studio or with a successful producer. Six months will teach you more than 20 years of DIY and reading.

We all stand on the shoulders of those who we assisted early in our careers.

To the OP.

Knowledge is everywhere,
Read, look, practice, listen, share....
Are all are valid ways to learn
Just don't forget to pass it on
When it comes round to your turn

Try this, this is has helped me to see songs with a clearer view.

Take a song that you find interesting and can't really tell what type of arrangement it has, import it into your DAW and break it down into it's segments with the help of arranger markers e.g. Intro (8 bars), 1st Verse (12 bars), Hook (12 bars) etc.

You'll find out that a lot of arrangements do creatively what suites the SONG best not the beat. There are a lot of songs that don't use the regular 8, 16, 8, 16 etc. schema.

At the end of the day it's really about how you hear the SONG (vocals + instrumentals) in your head and then form everything according to it.
