Default HDX Thunderbolt Chassis and HD Native

I have an HD Native card installed in the HDX Thunderbolt 3 rackmount chassis with a mac mini running Big Sur and the latest PT. My hardware is not being recognized. I cannot see the Omni in the hardware setup for pro tools.

Does the Native card need a separate power cable connecting it to the board in the chassis or does it draw power through PCI-E?

What other reason could there be for the device to not connect? The Omni power ring stays orange even though everything is connected and powered up.

More info might help you.

What exact version of Pro Tools? What Mac?

Does the card show up in System Info?

What driver do you have installed? Did you grant install permission for the driver in macOS security prefs?

There are lots of woes about installing drivers discussed all over DUC, that would be my first guess.

Perhaps a too obvious question, but are you using Protools Ultimate? Nothing wiil be recognized if you're just using standard Protools.

It is Ultimate. I just purchased and downloaded it. I installed the drivers fine. I will dig further tomorrow when I have time and can provide more info. But my first question is: does the native card require a power cable in the HDX Thunderbolt 3 chassis or does it draw enough power from pcie? I see a connector on the card and on the chassis board so I wanted to make sure it wasn't something as easy as that first.

The HDN PCIe card does not need ancillary power like the HDX card requires.

There is a known Apple issue on Big Sur loading the HD Driver that may be contributing to the issue. We've just released support on Monterey 12.3 where the issue is resolved. You can see some of the workarounds in the KB below if there is need to stick to Big Sur.

I just downgraded my brand new mac mini a week ago, I should have waited!

I'll do a Monterey upgrade today.
