Default Best G5 Mac for Pro Tools LE using Digi 002

Now that some of you have the benefit of hindsight, what would be the best G5 Mac for use with Pro Tools LE?

Right now I'm on a dual G4 using 6.4 but I've been itching to upgrade to 7.X.

Are there any G5 models I should avoid?

Thanks!

The best one is the dual 2.3 tower that I'm selling, so you should buy it from me.

But seriously, I have had no problems with mine. It's the last version of the G5 Power Macs. Worked really great for me with my 002R. Handled 16-track simultaneous recording at 48K/24-bit no problem, and fairly large sessions (32+ tracks, lots of plugins) ran smoothly with the HW buffer set at 256.

I have a G5 quad with 4 gig of RAM and its fast and works fine, on 10.4 and 7.4le. I have no reason to complain or think about upgrading to 10.5....or move over to a pentium mac.

Stay away from any of the G5 models that used "liquid cooling" - they're all starting to die right about now (about 3 - 3.5 years after release) by leaking coolant. I've seen 3 go down in the past month, including my own Dual 2.5. Check this out: PowerMac G5 Coolant Leaks

G5 2.5 quad is the best. 2.3 dual core second best. These have up to date PCIe card slots.. ..

Buy a Mac Pro!!!!!!!!! INTEL INTEL INTEL!!! The heat and noise alone makes me cringe to think about a G5 processor, let alone 2 of them in one enclosure. I record with my Mac Pro in the same room as my mics and it's dead silent! Buy a Mac Pro!!!!

They meant Intel Mac. There aren't any Pentium Macs. Mac Pro units use Xeon processors.

Running a G5 2.0GHz w/ 8GB of Ram, (2) 20" Cinema Display's, Pro Tools 7.4.2 w/ no issue's (currently), though I did have to get the PCI replaced twice. Honestly, apple fixed it in no time (sent out a rep.), I believe that they were just faulty from when they were made (man-made, hey it happens).
