Default Loyal user - now cheesed off!

I've always been fairly supportive of Digidesign on this board but I'm now getting pretty cheesed off.

Firstly, the initial upgrade from 5.0 to 5.01 or whatever from a year ago went smoothly but I couldn't open any original 5.0 sessions.......never mind, stick with 5.0

Secondly, the DigiFactory thing, I mean WTF, after discounts this will work out only slightly more expensive than my original DIGI.

Thirdly, control surfaces. Theres Houston for VST, the new device for Logic and what about PTLE. Well there is Motormox @ £700, but you need 2 to get any benefit. Theres the 01V but that £1100 and an extra £200 for the optical to analogue converter and you still don't have all 24 tracks out. There is Procontrol at £10,000....well thats a joke as well.

Fourthly, the plugins are heinously expensive anything between £200 and £1000.

Fifthly, what is the function of the serial port? Anything? Nothing?

I love the system and it has worked well for me. I am just not sure what the 'upgrade path' promised in the original blurb is. I mean upgrade to what, with what?

Sorry, but I still can't see the reasoning behind being mad at Digi for selling a product with added features that the system you bought a year ago didn't have. I'm not trying to pick on you. I guess I just don't understand what you really expect from them. Sure, I'd love to have that plug bundle, too. I'd also like to have the extended cab that wasn't available when I bought my Dakota truck.

Oh, you mean....pissed off?

So, there's no sixthly or seventhly? Damn!

Greenroom, the truth is that billions of rants just like yours have been mainfested here in the past few months.
I, myself, have come to terms with my own expectations from Digidesign and in a way, have gone full circle with all sorts of software to reach the Zen palace that is now ProTools.
I'm enjoying ProTools all over again, after having this system for 1 year, yet toiling away with Reason and Acid during the past 4 moths in order to catch a 'diferent vibe'.
Those programs are wonderful for what they can do and are capable of things PT cannot even comprehend, but then again, that's not what Pro Tools is all about. A little backtracking in digital recording history should suffice to understand what I mean.

Do a search to read all the ranting and bitching posts. There are many, so get a full pack of smokes and set the Braun for a 12-cup.
You'll even see some of mine in there, as at one point I was ready to 'jump ship', but not anymore.
When you bought the Digi001, you bought it based on what it could do for your style of music writing, on how it compared against the competition (at the time), at an attractive price with a reputation to follow, right? Of course, right.
We want every new thing the moment it comes out, forgetting how we got by for so long with a fraction of what's around.

Yes, the Mac-heads are getting the royal treatment from Digi, I know, it's old news just like this very topic but while you read the older threads, take a close look at David Sumich's replies to some of these angry hemorrhoid-induced users.

There is hope and patience will prevail.

Hi,
I completely agree with pk. What I think people here often forget (not pk) is that this is about business for DigiDesign.

Look to history to see how this is going to work out. The Mac world used to be the place where games were developed first, where office apps were developed first, it all happened there before the PC.

Then the PC got big, and that all changed. Today the Mac is pretty much marginalized in most of the computing world. It's not the major home platform, like it used to be. It's not the major school platform, like it used to be. It's not even the major entertainment industry platform anymore when you look at the technology getting used to make movies and what not.

The way we get what we want is to make the PC platform the place where DigiDesign makes more money. When that happens, everything changes.

Regards,
Mark

there is new board that will be approved by digi in the next 3 monthes. It is made by tascam. It its called the DM24. There will be a software upgrade for it in 3 monthes that includes the mackie HUI plugin. This will make the DM24 as integrated with PT as the HUI bard. check out www.tascam.com

greenroom,

Nothing personal about the 'whining' comment. I'd had a tough day when I wrote it. I've done some whining myself, so...

Yavuzj,
My business experience says that equal isn't enough. Over time, this will tend to equalize things as long as there is no technical reason why they can't.

Again, don't be disappointed if you don't get an answer. That sort of info is exactly what Digi's competitors might want to know about if they're considering handling both markets..

My belief is that the superior price/performance of the PC platform will EVENTUALLY drive things in our direction. I don't know if folks are patient enough to wait though. ;-) Again, it's only my belief, nothing more...

Cheers,
Mark
