DC 30 slot order
What is the slot order for using a Miro card with the 001 on a MacG4.
Can I run the video off the internal drive? Do I need a SCSI drive for the audio in this case? I read in the installation tips that no SCSI cards have yet been approved. If I can use a SCSI card in the above config where would that fit in? |

Re: DC 30 slot order
Put the Digi card closest to the power-supply, the other order don't matter much.
Yes, you can run video on the internal drive, but along with multiple tracks in PT you might want to consider a SCSI card or extra IDE drive. I use an Adaptec 2940UW which is not supported, but after some tweaking, it works just fine. Dunno about the Atto-cards... use 'search' and see what others have to say. Hope this helps ------------------ Arno Peeters www.tapetv.nl |

Re: DC 30 slot order
I have 001 G4/350AGP, DC-30 and 2930 card - works great - audio on system drive and video on external SCSI.

Re: DC 30 slot order
So why is it mentioned on the installation tips that SCSI cards have not been approved as yet? Will it help if I partition the 27GB internal IDE drive which I have into a separate partition for audio? I am only dubbing a couple of tracks right now. Should I get another IDE drive (maybe 8GB) and instal the Mac OS on that and use the 27GB for audio?

Re: DC 30 slot order
Partitioning make things worse - head will have to jump between two partitioms all the time, I'm afraid. I tried video from system drive and basically it works, but only with high compression - but since it's reference only, I don't care. It depends on what you need - "ready" video or just reference.

Re: DC 30 slot order
Hi Przemek
What compression is OK if I were to run a ref picture and audio on the same drive. I used a transfer data rate of 70kb and captured at 320X240. The picture was fantastic. I can do with higher compression. What do you suggest? What is the best IDE drive to go for? |

Re: DC 30 slot order
I capture in 320 and about the same ratio. But picture is not excellent , but it's OK for reference. I do not know about drives, Barracuda or IBM seem to be a good choice (IBM is cheaper).
