Default Safari 6/Java/Avid Download Manager

Anybody else having problems downloading Avid software after updating to Safari 6? I really don't want to install another web browser.

Is this a known issue/bug?ImageUploadedByTapatalk1385321174.371103.jpg

I have verified java plugin is up to date...

You don't need a different browser, just don't use the download manager.

But if you want more help it might help to know exactly what version of Safari (6.1?) you Are using on exactly what OS X (presumably 10.8.5 from your sig?) and exactly what Java release.

I checked the download manager. On Safari 6.1 on OS X 10.8.5 running Java 7 Update 45 on my old MBP.... this works *if* you disable all security using the OS X Preferences Java Prefpane (slide the security slider to the bottom, "I don't give a [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep] about security" setting). Having to do that should be a warning...

From a security (and some other) point of view Java is a toxic steaming pile of dung, especially in client side use/facing the Internet. It was stupid for Avid to want to use a Java based download manager and stupid for them to continue to use it (it should be removed IMNSHO). And its unfortunately stupid for users to keep using this, or to have Java generally enabled in their browsers. I have latest the Java plugins installed across multiple browsers but will disable them totally unless needed for some specific app/use I cant' do any other away (e.g. looking at some advanced weather data websites, downloading a file does not get close to justifying needing Java).
