Default Re: Who's Enjoying Their MBox? Let's Share

Ordered one from Sweetwater, but still in the shipping box. Deciding whether it's worth messing with.

I am a teacher so currently have the $99 yearly sub price, which really works for me. Using a Presonus 68c which ain't too fancy, but it's rock solid.

Any thoughts on Perpetual vs $99 sub? I could technically just do the update play every two years for $199 and come out the same, but would have a perpetual if I didn't feel like upgrading (and frankly, I don't always feel the need to keep up with the latest. Just realized the other day I hadn't updated PT in a while and was still on a 2023 version!)

Perpetual would maybe make sense for a Windows user, but as every Mac OS update seems to trash everything before, staying with a subscription would be my suggestion for Mac users. Having come from the Presonus 24c, I like the Mbox much better, despite its shortcomings.

I ended up setting it up on Sunday and I really do love this thing.

My only gripe is not being able to assign the shortcut buttons to functions inside Pro Tools. I really have very little need for MBox Control shortcuts. They look pretty though! lol.

One other thing... my Mac did lose connection with the MBox at one point, and I had to power cycle both the computer and MBox and it was fine again. Never ever had a problem with the Presonus 24c or 68c. I would have my computer and interface on for months and would never lose connection. Hopefully it was just a one-off, but I've decided to try to shut down computer and interface while I'm not using them. They generated a good bit of heat anyway.

My academic sub runs out in May 2025, then I'll activate my perpetual and I'll be good with updates until May 2026. At that point I'll just stick with what I've got for a while. I'm on Mac, but I tend to say one or two versions behind anyway. Right now I'm on Sonoma and plan to stick with that for at least a year. Apple has never introduced anything in MacOS that's been a must-have.

In any case, yeah, this "new" Mbox (new to me) is absolutely killer.
