Clean install or update from 2020.3 to 2021.6?

I haven't uninstalled 2020.3 yet and was just waiting to install 2021.6 until I clarified a few things about the process.

I thought you needed Avids help as I read it like that but no need for any support escalation as you have all the licenses and plans which are up to date. Make sure that the plan that is activated is valid for this version lf PT 2021.6. If i understood right your plan that is activated now is valid until 2022 so you dont need anything else to get up and running.

Try updating to the latest PT version i.e 2021.6 and see if your errors disappers otherwise let us know in this thread and we will try to help further.

I'm on macOS and have been installing updates over previous versions since PT2020 and haven't noticed any major issues afaik.

All my personal templates remain and are seen, all my extra Avid plug-ins and codecs, even Waves too, I don't need to move anything from/too or install anything but Pro Tools and whatever else the installer contains. Even my command switch for Processor Affinity still works with the new PT icon shortcut.

As an aside, I use CCLeaner to disable Avid Link at start-up and even that setting remains.

I've had other issues to deal with and had not tried to reinstall any version till today. I decided that for now anyway I'd stick with 2020.3, since that's the version I had most recently.

Everything went as it always has when installing. But when I open my most recent project files I get an error indicating that 10 plug-ins that are installed are missing:

'One or more tracks contain plug-ins that don't exist in your plug-in folder.'

What's really weird is that three of these are Avid plug-ins (EQ3 7-band, Dyn3 Compressor/Limiter, and Mod Delay III), and three are Waves. Waves Central says that they're all nstalled, as are all the others: I did them one by one.

Where else might they be?

I've never run into this in all the years I've been using PT.
