Default Can you record the audio/tones of plugins so you can reduce the amount you are using?

I keep having a cpu error and I want to print/record all of the tones generated by Xpand2, and some of the other plugins so I won't be running so many at once.

Excuse me if I'm not using the right terms. Im a fossil from the analog era.

Welcome to the DUC That's a typical great idea to record the tones of plugins and VIs to audio tracks...either you're happy with them and don't need to make any tone edits, so go ahead and print the instrument, or just print them now for the sake of saving CPU to get you by for tracking other 'real instruments' and voices, and knowing that you can go back to the midi/instrument tracks right before mixdown to make any adjustments, but at a higher CPU sample buffer setting.

Buss the output of your midi/instrument track to the same buss input of a new (stereo) audio track...arm and hit record for the new track.

Make sure all your plugins are the most current for your version of PTs.

solo it and bounce it to disk and re-import it, check it sounds the way you want, then ditch the cpu hungry virtual instrument.

Or bus it to a new audio track and record it.

It's a good idea of course. I often to that (bounce to disk) since I don't have a mega computer from another galaxy. It's a great and clever way to work and get rid of all the cpu eaters, as long as you are sure about the audio you are about to record and you are sure it's finnal and you like it that way. Keep a few backup sessions with still the virtual instrument and all its effects in it, I always save the patch/preset before deleting the whole thing, might sounds stupid but trust me s--t happens! ;-)

You don't have to create back up sessions! You can just set the "mother" track to Inactive...even Hide.At least you're still able to reprint it later if it doesn't fit the mixdown in the same session.
Just my two cents.

That's a pretty sweet tip, never really thought about doing that hmmm... But I wonder, is making a track inactive the same as deleting it, cpu power speaking? Making it inactive makes it totally cpu power free?

Yes, that's exactly what it does. Besides saving cpu power, it also frees up a voice to use for another track.

there you go, never knew that, I was backing up the session file before deleting. As you say, set it to inactive, who says we don't have a freeze function!!!
