Sync Protools LE with Cubase
Hi, I have the following question:
How do I synchronize, via midi, Protools with Cubase. I use Digi 001 on a Mac G4 and Cubase (as a sequencer) on a Windows XP laptop. On my laptop I have a Edirol midi interface with midi in and out. I want to send my midi arrangments to my soundmodules and record the audio with Protools. I've tried a lot of things but noting worked properly. Hope someone has the solution. Thanks! |

Re: Sync Protools LE with Cubase
I am a Cubase - ProTools convert. I still love everything about Cubase but I started getting more and more incompatabilty. In fact Cubase's audio feature is excellent. I love their built in EQ's (no need to use as plug in like PTLE) and comp/rev. I am not sure why you want to synch 2 machines. You might be asking for more problem. In theory you can use MTC on one system to synch 2 devices. I have done this with Roland VS 880 and PC Cubase but not PC and Mac. One thing that I noticed is that it takes time for both machine to synch. so allow 2 -4 bars at the begining of the song. So it can 'chase" the time code. it does this everytime you stop, rewind or fast forward. Pre-roll/post roll.. is the key.
Also, late version ProTools 6.X have good MIDi function. You can just export MIDI file from Cubase and run MIDi and audio on one device. Are you running soft synth? I love some of the VST Soft syth - like the Grand, Groove Agent, Virtual Guitarist. Xpantions VST to RTAS can convert most of them to use on PTLE. But to releave headache I started making all MIDI Soft synth to Audio Tracks and export - import into PTLE track by track. There is another method called OMF which Cubase bundles - it is cross platform/cross application - universal format that allows you to open digital mutitrack files on different apps. But on PTLE you need to get DV Tool KIt $500+ to activate this. I would stay with one system. Or complete project on one system and export to another. ghj

Re: Sync Protools LE with Cubase
Thanks for the reply.
I use Cubase as a midi sequencer for years now. I don't want to use the audio part because I'm used to Protools. I also don't have a audiointerface to record audio on Cubase. I've tried to export the midi arrangements tomidifiles and import them i Protools. It worked fine except for one thing. Protools puts everthing back to 4/4 and 120 bpm, where my Cubase arrangements are f.e. 3/4 with 100 bpm. And that's my problem. |
