Default opening older versions of protools in v/ 6.9.2

I have files from a friend that are in a dated version of protools, but I took them assuming that the newer versions would open the older version without a problem. When I try to open the files, they seem completely unrecognizable (I get the message that there is "no application associated with the files"). When I select Pro Tools as the application to open it with, I get the message that "this is not a valid Pro Tools session".

I am positive that these are valid Pro Tools sessions as I have worked with them on my friend's mac (in their older version of Pro Tools).

Any ideas how to resolve this issue?

Thanks!

Are you running a Mac or PC? If you're on a PC and the files weren't setup for PC/Mac compatibility, that could be the problem. A work around might be to import the audio files into a new session.

That's very strange. I would expect all of the files in the "Audio" folder for the session to be in AIFF or WAV format.
