Default Digi PRE or MIDI I/O?

Hello! I know the Digidesign 192 I/O’s are currently working with Pro Tools 2021 but does anyone know if either the older MIDI I/O or PRE work?

Also, is there a separate firmware for the older 192 I/O or does it “just work” with the software installer? Thanks!!

I had a MIDI I/O for a long time and really liked it. Maybe two or three years ago it became kind of a PITA. I would have to reinstall the driver and then plug it back in to get it to work.

I bought the cheapest MOTU 8x8 and it's been rock solid. Loved the Digidesign one for years but don't miss it. Did look cool with my 192s.

The 192 shows up as a 192 still from what I remember, but this would have been a few versions back. I'm using SSL AlphaLink now, which shows up as 3 192s.

192's work just fine.

MIDI I/O only had a 32 bit driver so became a doorstop with Catalina. Shame because it did match

PRE should work but you'll need a new MIDI interface to control it.

The Pre is an all analog 8 channel mic preamp. I have one in my studio.

The only connection to PT is via MIDI which is so you can control the preamp settings inside Protools, you can also do that via the front of the unit as well.

Is there a factory reset for the Pre, or a firmware update?

Not that I'm aware of. If you have a PRE and it's not working, it's a costly repair, I had mine repaired at the place below years ago (not sure if they still do it). The PRE remote control over MIDI still works for me using Pro Tools. Pairs nicely with the Quantum 4848 and I like that it has a line in/out on every channel if you want to insert a compressor or eq. Quality wise it's pretty neutral preamp and the stepped gain makes setting levels sometimes a bit tricky. Still nice big meters on the front panel.

I started having issues with my MIDI I/O after one of the High Sierra updates a few years. Bought a MOTU Micro Lite to replace it.
