Mono audio file playback into stereo source on DADman?
Hey gang- very odd situation happening. I'm running Mac OS 10.14.6 on a Mac Pro 5.1. I've got DADman configured to have Dante Virtual Soundcard as an input source. However, when playing mono audio files it will only play on the left channel and play only out of the left speaker (if audio monitoring done by either auditioning the file via spacebar or by opening in Quicktime Player). But here's the weird part- when opening that same mono file in Quicktime Player 7, or auditioning a mono file in Soundminer Pro, the playback will be in BOTH channels of the DVS Source and play out of both speakers!
What I'd like is to be able to quickly audition mono audio files from any random folder on my desktop via DVS that will play in both speakers, without having to hit the fold down button. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance! -Josh Last edited by talkbacksound; 12-14-2023 at 06:03 PM. |

Re: Mono audio file playback into stereo source on DADman?
Audio Midi setup doesn't have a mono setup. It starts with stereo. That's where the output channels are set from Finder preview (etc)

Re: Mono audio file playback into stereo source on DADman?
Appreciate that…but it doesn’t explain why QuickTime Player 7 and Soundminer would be able to play mono audio files that get split into a stereo (or multiple mono?) file that properly plays out to the stereo DVS input as configured in DADman.

Re: Mono audio file playback into stereo source on DADman?
There is no mystery here Quicktime is a general purpose video app, it's not 1:1 digital recorder/playback software. If given a mono source file it pans it to stereo. Exactly what a typical QuickTime video playback user would want if they get a video with a mono audio track... you don't want that playing out one speaker only.
Maybe Soundminder is doing similar, I have no idea, I don't use it. |

Re: Mono audio file playback into stereo source on DADman?
Gotcha. But that suggests that Apple changed that functionality from the old QuickTime Player 7 to the the “new and improved” QuickTime Player so that mono files would only play mono (1:1)?

Re: Mono audio file playback into stereo source on DADman?
Well for anybody who might be interested...I did some searching around and the solution was to change the speaker configuration from Stereo to Surround 2.0 in Audio MIDI setup. It worked- mono files would play from both speakers. Then when changing the speaker configuration back to Stereo...it still worked! Weird right? As the guy who wrote the posting said, "This is a weird CoreAudio thing..."
