Accumulative phase build up through multiple different tracks
Accumulative phase build up through multiple different tracks
Im doing a song where there is a chorus with 6 tracks singing the same thing all different takes as far as I can tell but there seems to be a strange phase build up due to the amount of tracks. I have tried reversing polarity but this only helps a little . Keep in mind that these are different takes on all tracks , is this something that is best fix,d through EQ or time alignment . I have never experienced phase is this way before so I thought I would ask for suggestions before I muck around with a other wise good vocal performance. Any suggestions would be appreciated THANKS |

Re: Accumulative phase build up through multiple different tracks
Phase is relative. If they are truly 6 different takes then they have NO phase relationship to each other in any way.
Have they been tuned? Very often, over tuning of BGV can make them start to do this some. Also, here's an idea---turn some off!! Just because they're there, doesn't mean they should be used. |

Re: Accumulative phase build up through multiple different tracks
I'm not sure I understand what is happening, but I'll toss some ideas out. Phase issues will likely be most evident in mono so start with all tracks panned center(if things get better, then panning/spreading them out will likely improve it more). Next thing is; do you NEED all 6 tracks? (sometimes less is more). IOW, do all 6 tracks belong in the mix, or is it 6 takes where you should choose the best 2 or 3? Then, maybe experiment with nudging a few tracks either way by several hundred samples. Or put EQ on each and boost/cut different ranges.

Accumulative phase build up through multiple different tracks
Is it a 3 part harmony doubled or 1 part "double tracked" 6 times?
In any multiple tracking situation there can be problems with room modes from a less than ideal acoustic space (and/or micing) piling up, as well as formants from the instrument/voice starting to dominate the spectral balance. This is why brass players change instruments or exchange parts when doubling a part.
