Default Mic/Line and Line inputs on Mbox2 Pro

Hello,

I'm fairly new to Mbox and Protools and I'm a bit confused about the line in inputs. I am trying to dump some old 4-track tapes and would like to have equal line level volume for all four tracks when using the two XLR/Line in jacks and the two Aux Line in jacks simultaneously. I have always assumed that line level inputs do not go through any kind of gain stage, but it seems like there is no way to bypass the gain when going in the XLR/Line jacks in the back of the unit. The two auxiliary Line inputs do not have this problem. What is the best way to get around this (or can I)?

I'm running the unit on an intel mac with 10.4.11

I apologize in advance if the answer is really obvious.

Thanks.

I had the exact same problem. My "quick and dirty" solution was to run a test tone through both the xlr/line channels and the aux channels and balance them that way with a dB meter. I found that having the pads on the xlr/line channels was needed, but maybe someone else could tell me that this was a bad idea.

As far as bypassing the gain, I was told that there was no way to do it.

Thanks for the reply. I wish Digidesign would have indicated on their box that line level is not really line level. I wouldn't have sold my old M-Audio 1814. Oh well.
